Yubari melon
Just like Kobe beef or champagne, the fruit can only be produced in a certain region in order to be named thus - Yubari. It is grown in special greenhouses and praised for its sweetness. Unlike other fruits, it is exclusively sold in auctions and generally gifted on special occasions with a price between £15300 to £39000.
Ruby Romans:
Those grapes need to have exactly 18 percent sugar and weigh 20g each to be qualified as Ruby romans . They may look like ping pong balls but these juicy grapes are one of the rarest fruits, grown and marketed entirely in Ishikawa Province, Japan.A bunch of them could cost anywhere from £700 to over £8000, exclusively sold in the auctions.
Densuke watermelons:
These 11kg watermelons are another specialty from Hokkaido. They have visibly darker rind and the flesh is known to have a unique and unmatched taste, much sweeter than the regular watermelons sold elsewhere. Additionally, only a hundred of them are sold at a time. Prices for individual Densuke watermelons actually average around £200, but top quality melons at auction can be sold anything from £700 to £3300, even going as high as £4400 one year.
Northern Territory Mangoes
This list would be incomplete without the appearance of the king of fruits. These mangoes grow in the humid region of Australia’s northern territory. They are gigantic and taste fantastic. A single fruit costs over £3000.
Taiyo no Tomago:
The egg of the sun in Japanese, are only grown in Miyazaki, Japan. These purple-colored mangoes are crafted by farmers and are extremely difficult to grow as they can only be cultivated indoors with a special net bag in place. They cost over £2200.
Pineapples from the lost gardens of Heligan:
Prince Charles gifted the fruit to Queen Elizabeth II on their 50th anniversary, a fruit with royal approval!: Those pineapples take almost two years to grow, weigh about 13kg and measure close to six inches. Adding to its unique taste, farmers grow the fruits in a special temperature-controlled victorian culture farming. Each Pineapple costs £1100.
Square Watermelon:
Square-shaped fruits are an absolute rarity but Japan makes it possible. These juicy fruits, shaped into squares using artificial molds are sold £600 each.
