7 things to do in Essaouria

1.Moroccan Cooking class at l’Atelier

The classes are run by two females chefs speaking English, French and Arab. They also offer Moroccan pastry classes on top of traditional Moroccan cuisine!

An entertaining 2hours cooking-class followed by exploration of the medina to source some spices and with introduction to one of the best holistic practitioner in town explaining you every thing you might dream to know to make the most of the food you consume! Once back at the Atelier you will enjoy a well deserved degustation.

2. Get a massage at the Spa Cocooning

There are plenty places to do some selfcare and enjoy yourself; Spa cocooning offers great relaxation packages in clean facility. You will discover their venu after going up a few level of stairs so I will recommend calling to book before going to spare yo the hustle of going up and down to find out that they are already full!

If you are looking for a more instagram-like spot, you can also enjoy the spa of the Mumtaz Mahal- pictured here; I had treatment and haman there and even if the aesthetic is very pretty I was not very impressed with the service that was not as relaxing as Spa cocooning.

3. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan music show on Ksou’ rooftop

The food there is absolutely amazing and you can enjoy their beautiful menu for lunch as well.

If you are looking for something extra at night, they have a traditional berber music show with men dancing and fire breathing performances. The rooftop is open until late so you can go to enjoy a cocktail with no alcohol.

4. Do a quad tour exploring the desert

quad desert morocco

Two hours session minimum are recommended to enjoy yourself as time goes quickly when you are having fun! The longer the activity, the more territory you will explore. For two hours, the quad circuit is a blend of driving on the beach and exploring the Sahara desert’ dunes.

The drive isn’t too intense yet you will have some adrenaline rush by using some speed to power through the sand slopes; You don’t need to have any previous experience driving a quad and the instructor will guide you through. The session are for minimum two people but if you are travelling alone, you can team up with others travellers and make new friends!

5. Enjoy a camel ride on the beach at sunset

Two hours is a good amount of time to enjoy beautiful sights from the height of your camel back! The best time is probably from 5.30pm until 7.30 pm as you will enjoy the sunset on the beach on your way back; It might be one of the most beautiful that you have ever seen with the sun sitting on the sea horizon before disappearing in a diffusion of deep orange and solar yellow colors.

Make sure you are dressed appropriately for the exploration: Winds are sometimes blowing in the desert so wearing sunglasses and a bandana to avoid having your hair in your face might be smart move! If you want to go the extra miles and blend with Arabic fashion, you can also wear a djellaba on top of your clothes to be protected from sands blowing and still feel warm once the sun has set.

You will enjoy sea breeze keeping you fresh near the water but if you enjoy your camel ride ballad during the day it does get warm especially in the desert, so prefer light fabric in which you feel comfortable. Try to avoid dark colours attracting the sunlights and tight clothes preventing you from moving around easily up or down your camel.

7. Spend the day at the parmaculture farm at Akal

Located 40 minutes away from Essaouria, this amazing spot will immerse you in nature and have you spending the day in a peaceful farm.
